All Ireland GAA Legends to Tee Off in Charity Golf Classic
The inaugural Celtic Cross 3 Man Team launched on Monday 3rd July in Fintona Pearses GAA Club looks set to be golf classic like no other. The event will see 26 GAA legends, all of whom have won an All-Ireland medal, take to the course with their golfing teams in aid of Michaela Foundation and Fintona Pearses.
Fintona Golf Club will play host to the golf competition on Saturday 23rd September and provide evening entertainment in the club house.
The Celtic Cross 3 Man Team is the latest in a series of successful events organised by Fintona Pearses as part of their centenary celebrations. Much support has already been leveraged for the event including the appointment of Tyrone Fabrication as lead sponsor.
GAA legends have been quick to show their support for the event with many already signing up for the challenge including Tyrone’s Peter Canavan and Downs Greg Blaney. When asked for his thoughts on the event Mickey Harte said, “It is such a novel idea and a nice twist to the normal Golf Classics that exist. Teams have the opportunity to play an All-Ireland medal holder so it’s something to cherish.
Speaking on behalf of Michaela Foundation at the launch, John Mc Areavey said:
“We are delighted to partner with Fiontona Pearses for this special event especially during the club’s centenary year. We’re excited to work on such an innovative fundraising event that not only will raise much needed funds for the club and Michaela Foundation, but will also celebrate the sporting successes of GAA heroes from across Ireland.”
John Kelly of Finton Pearses said “ We are delighted to be supporting Michaela Foundation and already there is a great buzz of anticipation for this event”
Teams of three golfers will be matched at random with a Celtic Cross holder as team captain. Those interested in participating in the competition, or sponsoring this innovative event should contact Fintona Pearse’s Golf Club. The organising committee already expect the event to be a sell-out.
