Teas, treats and more at the festive launch of Little Penny’s Book of Thoughts

Monday December 7th 2015

Not even Storm Desmond could deter crowds from attending the launch of Little Penny’s Book of Thoughts on Saturday 5th December in Carrickmore G.A.C. Clubrooms. Thanks to Úna Daly of The Sweet Stop in Omagh for transforming the club meeting room into a festive haven where guests could escape the storm for a cosy cuppa.

The profits from the sales of Little Penny’s Book of Thoughts; a book of daily inspirational quotes compiled by Annette Kelly and illustrated by Orla McParland of Paper Wings will go directly to Michaela Foundation.

Úna Kelly (Michaela Foundation’s Operations Manager) welcomed guests to the launch before Mickey Harte officially launched the book. Úna spoke of Michaela Foundation’s aspirations for growth and development and the ongoing need for financial support to make such dreams become a reality. She thanked Annette and her team for their innovative fundraising initiative. “We are most grateful to Annette not only for undertaking such a wonderful fundraising project but also for choosing to do something which reflects the Michaela Foundation ethos so aptly. I am sure that this book of quotes will bring much inspiration and happiness to those who read it. We are so thankful to Annette for selecting Michaela Foundation as the charity beneficiary!”

Mickey Harte captured the guests’ attention with an inspirational talk on the importance of positivity, encouraging the room packed full of guests to embrace each day with the same joy as a child would. Mickey wasn’t the only special guest to attend the launch. Santa Claus also called in to fill his sleigh with copies of the book. Not only were children entertained by Santa but they also had the opportunity to partake in a workshop where they could create their own Christmas Candy Can with experienced Michaela Foundation volunteers.

Orla McParland of Paper Wings was thrilled to be asked to design and illustrate the book of thoughts;

“I jumped at the chance to help create something that was going to lift the spirits of others. Whilst designing each page, I got to read first-hand the powerful and inspirational quotes; for that I’m so grateful. Annette had a vision and thankfully I was able to make it a reality. She wanted the quotes to be the main focus and didn’t want the artwork to interfere with their message. Therefore, I kept the seasonal theme subtle throughout with a striking typographical cover that was sure to catch reader’s eye. The girl on the cover looks to me like someone who is peaceful, content and deep in thought. Making you ask…’Penny for your thoughts?’ hence inspiring the title of the book Little Penny’s Book of Thoughts.”

Annette Kelly, the driving force behind this fundraising initiative took the opportunity on Saturday to thank all those who contributed to the book and supported her in both the production and the official launch.

“I am blessed to be surrounded by an amazing team of great people who brought Little Penny’s Book Of Thoughts to life. The atmosphere at the launch was super and the book is being received brilliantly. I look forward to sharing and spreading the Michaela Foundation ethos upon visiting various counties with this little creation. Everybody needs a little sparkle of positivity in their life and I believe this book has the potential to inspire on a daily basis.”
