Michaela Foundation Milestones
Our busiest summer to date! Over a space of 6 weeks we held 12 Summer Camps covering all Ulster counties and as far south as Mayo.
On May 1st 2014, Carton House hosted the most amazing line up of Irish Sporting Legends, ever to be brought together in aid of Michaela Foundation. ‘Night of Legends’ brought the biggest stars from their respective sports together for an evening of fine dining, sports chat and memorabilia auctioning in the exquisite Carton House.
Brian O’Driscoll, Ireland’s greatest Rugby player, Paul McGinley, 2014 Ryder Cup captain, Martin O’Neill, Republic of Ireland manager, Mickey Harte, 3 time Senior All-Ireland winning manager with Tyrone, and hurling’s most decorated player, Kilkenny’s 11 time All-Star, Henry Shefflin all came together for what turned out to be a spectacular event, not to be forgotten!
With our Limited Edition Camp Jerseys being so sought after, we decided to launch a Life Without Limits leisurewear range in association with O’Neills. Allowing us to grow awareness of the foundation and to raise extra funds.
A year after Match for Michaela, we were honoured to win the Chartered Institute of Marketing People’s Choice Award.
Through the generous work of fundraisers and volunteers, we were delighted to be able to offer seven camps in 2013.
The huge success of Michaela Foundation and the demand for work throughout the country led to hiring our first (and only!) full time member of staff. Úna Kelly joined the team to help drive our growth and impact throughout Ireland.
Our largest and most successful fundraiser to date, held in partnership with the Ulster GAA. On a cold November evening 20,000 people from all over Ireland filled Casement Park, Belfast to enjoy a magical evening. ‘A Festival With Football’ saw all Ireland Senior Champions Donegal play a team comprising the best players from the rest of Ulster. Hosted by Hector Ó hEochagáin with acts including Janet Devlin, More Power to Your Elbow and a fantastic half-time flash mob, it certainly was a night to remember. Broadcasted live on TG4, the event raised £144,000 for Michaela Foundation.
The first ever Michaela Foundation Girls Summer Camp took place in Michaela’s home townland of Glencull, Tyrone. It experienced an overwhelming success-full to capacity, with fun and confidence clear to be seen. It inspired us to spread our wings in 2013!
Michaela Foundation Student Award Scheme was launched. Offering 3 university students the opportunity to win a £1,000 scholarship. In return, the MF Scholars shared their ups and downs of the transition from second level to third level education with the MF community. Their honesty and advice continues to serve as support for those already on, or about to embark on a similar journey.
“Run for Michaela” The first of many fundraisers organised by our generous supporters was launched. All 48 clubs in Tyrone and St Patrick’s Academy Dungannon, hosted a non-competitive series of 10K and 5K walk/run events.
Noel Donnelly, Drumquin GAC devised and co-ordinated the concept alongside Tyrone County Chairman Ciaran McLaughlin and the Chairmen of the local District Councils.
Michaela Foundation is launched. We share our vision of helping the young people of Ireland lead a Life Without Limits.
