South Belfast Irish language and cultural organisation An Droichead are
gearing up for a gala fundraising dinner in the Waterfront Hall on 16th
March, which will be the highpoint of Belfast’s annual Seachtain na Gaeilge
– Irish language Week – celebrations.

The event aims to raise funds to support An Droichead’s cultural and
community work, which in recent times has included setting up Irish language
classes on the Newtownards Road in partnership with the East Belfast
Mission. The group also wish to add to the services and facilities available
to the young people who attend their nursery, afterschool, youth group and
summer camps. Speaking about the dinner, An Droichead manager Pól Deeds
said:

“We’re really looking forward to the event in the Waterfront Hall as part of
this year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge, and we’re proud to announce that we will
be joined in the fundraising effort by the Michaela Foundation, who we
believe share our core values of promoting culture and investing in our
young people.”

The Michaela Foundation will be An Droichead’s main partner in the event,
and Michaela’s brother Mark Harte will be the guest speaker. Speaking about
their involvement John McAreavey of the Michaela Foundation said,

“We are absolutely delighted to be associated with An Droichead for this
event. The Michaela Foundation actively promotes and encourages the
enhancement of Irish language and culture and this event is further
testament of that.”
