Michaela Foundation Summer Camp Leaders…definitely the best in Ireland…probably the best in the world!

Friday July 24th 2015

As the saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun! This is certainly the case for Michaela Foundation Summer Camp season. It’s so hard to believe that we’re approaching the fifth and final week of Summer Camp season. We’ve had 13 fabulous Camps so far and look forward to ending the season on a high note next Friday at our Camps in Cootehill (Cavan) and Enniskillen (Fermanagh).

It’s a pretty common mistake to think of volunteering as just something nice that people can do and a quick fire way to enhance a CV or UCAS/CAO application. We at Michaela Foundation have been fortunate enough to witness the lasting and greater impact it can have on individuals and communities. So far this summer, over 300 inspirational adults (of all ages and mixed gender) have generously donated one week of their summer to work with our Campettes throughout Ireland.

Some volunteers commuted over 3 hours daily to volunteer, others rented accommodation for the week, some utilised their annual leave to volunteer. These are just a few examples of the actions of selfless people wishing to cast a stone of kindness.

In a world where our young people are under great pressure to conform to “societal norms”; Michaela Foundation, through local role models are striving to give an alternative message.

The media and modern day culture often leads young ladies to believe that beauty and popularity counts most. On the contrary, our volunteers promote self-confidence and the importance of dreams and aspirations. Furthermore, our leaders have demonstrated to the Campettes that faith the size of a mustard seed can change lives.

Advertising companies and the cosmetic industry in particular spend huge amounts of money on campaigns convincing our young people that they must look a certain way or buy certain products for happiness. Michaela Foundation, with the assistance of our voluntary leaders and with the help of donations, deliver tailored programmes to help Campettes see their true beauty. Leaders aim to remind Campettes that their inner self, acts of kindness, skills and personality is of greatest importance.

Our aim at Michaela Foundation is to inspire, educate and support young people to lead happy and fulfilled lives without limits with faith and fun as their foundation…..thanks to our ever growing team of volunteers this aim is becoming a reality.
