Philadelphia Gaels Support Michaela Foundation

Monday October 27th 2014

On Thursday 23rd October, Karen (Welsh) McElhill and Ailise Gormley presented Mickey Harte, with the proceeds from a tremendously successful white-collar boxing gala, which took place in the Summer of 2013 in Philadelphia in aid of Michaela Foundation.

The Philadelphia Committee, under the Chairmanship of Paul Welsh native of Fintona, prepared for several months to make the weekend, not only a financial success, but emphasised the fun in fundraising. Team Ireland boarded the tin board with captains Conor Fleming of Fintona and Jason Montague, Omagh and left with plenty of great memories.
The majority of the boxing contests were very tight, with the spectators getting great entertainment on the evening. Unwavering support was received from Gaels in other American cities, especially the Big Apple. New York hosted their own boxing gala earlier this year in aid of Michaela Foundation giving the Philadelphia Team the opportunity to reciprocate the support.
The organising committee would like to extend thanks to all of the event sponsors. A special word of thanks goes to primary sponsors, Galaxy Facilities’ Brian McElhill, D.J. McGorman & Sons Transport, Lombard Estates’ Mickey Murray, Atlantic developments Manus Murray, Advanced Plastering’s Barry Campbell, and McGee Plastering’s Darren McGee.

Speaking on behalf of Michaela Foundation, John McAreavey stated, “I am absolutely delighted to receive these proceeds from all involved with the Philadelphia fight night. Special thanks to Paul Welsh who I have spoken with frequently during this event and could see the amount of effort and energy that had went into a truly wonderful night of boxing and entertainment.
