Wings Awards 2021 – Nominations Now Open!

Monday January 11th 2021

Nominations for our Wings Awards 2021 are now OPEN!

We are delighted to launch our Wings Awards for 2021 and cannot wait to hear about all the talented, inspiring, enthusiastic young people you have in your midst!

WHAT ARE THE WINGS AWARDS?

All we currently see in the media are bad news stories everywhere. However, we are incredibly lucky that through our work we get to meet amazing young people all across Ireland and we thought…why are we not hearing their stories? So we launched the Michaela Foundation Wings Awards to shine a spotlight on the young people in our schools, clubs and communities that are role models for those around them, encouraging others to be the best version of themselves with their own talents.

WINGS AWARDS GOING ONLINE!

2020 was a whirlwind of a year. As we tried to navigate our way through these unprecedented times, our Wings Awards for 2020 were held online for the first time and what a success they were!

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will hold our Wings Awards for 2021 online again via Zoom. We would love to be able to all come together to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our wonderful Wings Awards Finalists, however, we must continue to follow the government guidelines and put the health and wellbeing of our finalists, their families, our staff and volunteers first. In having the Wings Awards online, we can ensure each of our finalists have their very deserved moment in the spotlight. These awards will celebrate the exceptional achievements of young people in Ireland who continue to motivate and inspire others.

This year has been tough for so many throughout our own communities and the entire world, but beyond the devastation, there have been so many uplifting good news stories of how people have come together to help each other and those in need. Many young people have played an important role in supporting people throughout this pandemic. Whether it’s the schoolboy next door who is delivering shopping to his elderly neighbours or university students holding a fundraiser for COVID-19 relief, there are sure to be young people in your own community worthy of commendation, now more than ever.

WHO SHOULD I NOMINATE?

This is the beauty of the Wings Awards – there are no restrictions! If you know a young person that stands out to you for whatever reason, then they are worthy of being nominated. We have had talented sports people, entrepreneurs, scientists, musicians, youth workers, fundraisers, public speakers all nominated in the past…anything goes! A ‘Wings Award Nominee’ can be male or female and they do not need to have any previous affiliation with Michaela Foundation.

WHAT COULD THEY WIN?

There are three age categories:

– Age 11-13

– Age 14-16

– Age 17-24

There will be three winners in each age category. All winners will receive a trophy and a £250 bursary from Michaela Foundation. All finalists will receive a Michaela Foundation Wings Awards Certificate and the Wings Awards Presentation will be held online via Zoom.
